- and i want to say a very extra special big heart felt thank you to everyone who donated funds last week. I continue to be amazed by the generosity of spirit of this wonderful community. HUGS!
Well, i was looking through my phone and my camera and i have no new pictures to share with you. Mostly this is because we didn't do anything this week except try to keep Artoo out of the hopsital. And we were successful. Yay!
B-rad and i are both exhausted, after such a long and stressful week of sleepless nights and waking every hour or so to suction the baby, or to feed him a bit of a bottle of pedialyte to keep his hydration up.
He's not completely out of the woods yet, though. He still has a wicked nasty cough, but the coughing spells are becoming fewer and fewer, which is great.
Weekly Challenge #50 "Biggify"
I taught a class this week to a great bunch of ladies (HI LADIES!!) and as we were chatting, we got to talking about how sometimes the tendency, when working on a small canvas such as a Zentangle tile (which is 9cm x 9cm or 3.5" x 3.5") is to make all your tangles really very small. Which can have a wonderful effect, but what would happen if we made the conscience effort to biggify those tangles...?
So, i tested this out on my own. Turns out - when i decided to biggify my tangles, it was really very challenging for me.
Here are three tiles with four of my go-to tangles; Crescnet Moon, Keeko, Ennies, and Tripoli. You can see my 'regular' size tangling in the first tile, the second tile i 'biggified' the same 4 tangles - i showed it to b-rad and he said "You should try to make them even bigger".
So, the last tile i biggified to the edge of my comfort zone and then a bit further. It was a different feeling, for sure. Especially with a pattern like Keeko (the basketweave type one) where, when i do it in my regular size, i find it very relaxing and meditative. But biggified to the max, i had to be much more aware of my lines. They were longer, i had to space them out differently... i had to be much more deliberate in my work. And i really loved the shading i was able to achieve on the size of that tangle. Usually i just shade around the edges.
This week's challenge is to push your comfort zone and biggify your tangles. Don't biggify your canvas, try sticking to the size you generally work on to get the full effect. (Zentangling on a large surface is a whole other ball of wax - fun though) so if you work on tiles, biggify on a tile. if you work in your journal, biggify in your journal. you get it.
have fun! try it a few times and see where your comfort zone lies. Put your toe over that line and test the waters.
good times.
If you have a blog, add the site-specific URL where your tile is posted to the linkey machine below! Don't forget to link back here so that others can join in the fun! (if you don't know how to find this, you can see my half assed tutorial here)
Also, please feel free to come back often and visit the links of those people on the linkey machine - don't forget to leave a comment or feedback, everyone loves feedback. ;)
If you don't have a blog but still want to participate, you can email your tile to me and i will post it here. (See the contact tab above for my email address)
The deadline for each weekly challenge is Saturday night so that i can round everyone up by Sunday. What this means is that i will stop adding tiles to the slideshow on Sunday. You're still more than welcome to do the challenges and add your name to the linkey machine. I will be more diligent with the linkey machine - by editing out the ones that don't work, the doubles, the links that lead to nowhere, the links that go just to blog home pages (this is why we need those site specific urls), and the spam. And there is some spam. PLEASE do not put your *home* page in the linkey machine. please? for me??
I am so glad Artoo is feeling better. Thank you so much for still thinking of us and the challenge. It was fun!
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun tangle! I tried lots of shading. I changed from a Micron .03 to a Zig Millenium .05. Cannot wait for next week's challenge. Thanks so much Laura!!
ReplyDeleteI am vicmelhorse. Sorry, I still cannot figure out how to comment with my real name. Mel
Wow, this is going to be big, bigger, biggest fun :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope Artoo continues to improve.
ReplyDeleteI loved this challenge! I will probably do and post several more because it's a real eye-opener.
Hard, hard, hard. Only thing about it I loved was the number 50. I just couldn't 'zen with it...so it became more work than rest time for me.
ReplyDeleteHope wee one continues to improve.!
Thought this assignment was going to be difficult... but then the old "Zen" took over as I was drawing - and - BAM! It was finished. Fun, fun, fun.
ReplyDeleteArtoo, keep on gettin' better.
Wow!! It **seemed** like this was going to be a easy challenge until I got started. It really kept me focused on what I was doing and how mindful I had to be with my pen in hand. Great challenge -- thanks!
ReplyDeleteMight be one of my favourite challenges yet! Loved it & I'll most likely do a few more, just for kicks... stressful week at work - just what I needed tonight! Thanks, Laura :) All the best to Artoo.
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura, good one!
ReplyDeleteIt was quick and fun - Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAn interesting challenge and what a good idea, I did three, but feel I need to do more as my standard doesnt seem to be as good doing them larger. heres hoping i can improve. at least I did three!
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun challenge and one I need to practice because there are several tangles that I make too small for my own taste, even when I concentrate on making them larger. Thanx for the challenge and take care!
ReplyDeleteNot much zen for me this time, by making this one. Maybe I had to choose another already made tangle. I like the original better. The biggify one was made in a minute.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I did a tile using some of the basic tangles I use in my Intro to Zentangle classes.
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree with others that it was enjoyable to do this challenge. I can't wait for next challenge. Glad to hear Artoo is getting better.
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun one! Thanks, Laura. Hope Artoo is feeling better every day.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your 50th Challenge. It was a lot of fun. And I do hope your littlest rascal, Artoo is on the mend.
ReplyDeleteThanks for another great one! So glad that Artoo is better and I hope that by now, out of the woods.
ReplyDelete#31 this week, so sorry I am late, this is a brilliant challenge, could only manage the one tile with one tangle I'm afraid but had great fun doing it. Has kept me sane today!
ReplyDelete#13
ReplyDeleteGreat challenge this week! Really made me concentrate to keep them big! Love the progression of your tangles!
Glad to hear that Artoo is doing better and I hope that continues for a long, long time!
ReplyDeleteLaura, my first entry was a boo-boo. I put in the wrong link. Sorry--I'm on cold medication and a bit loopy.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that Artoo is doing better, Congratulations on Challenge #50!
ReplyDeleteHaven't had a chance to do the challenge yet this week (well, maybe in my head I've don a couple). Just wanted to send some black and white comment love to you guys. Hoping Artoo continues to get better. And congrats on almost a whole year of challenges. We are all grateful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the challenge....it went much faster than I thought it would.
ReplyDeleteSupersized challenge! Very fun - shading was the hurdle but will be fun to try again. Wow almost a years worth of challenges. Did you ever imagine it? Thanks for all you provide for us.
ReplyDeleteOnce again a very fun challenge!!! I liked being able to use a couple of techniques I haven't used in awhile...enlarging for one. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while but here is one from me.
ReplyDeleteCool, number 50 on challenge #50. This was a great challenge, want to try this one again. Thanks for the inspiration, Laura.
ReplyDeleteThis one was a challenge, since I tend to draw small (sometimes teeny-tiny). Good for me to open it up. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis was a great challenge. I biggified Lacy on a watercolour background.
