B-rad and i spent a very lovely anniversary together, in the isolation ward - after we managed to get Artoo to sleep, we played Scrabble together on our phones - as we didn't have a board game handy. This is kind of a tradition for us, as we played a lot of Scrabble on our honeymoon (I was very sick on our honeymoon) and we played Scrabble last year on our anniversary as well. lol.
Here we are, looking snappy in our isolation gowns - 8 years of wedded bliss. |
The day before we came home, Artoo slept for almost 4.5 hours in the afternoon. I tried to get a nap, but it's almost impossible to nap in a hospital room, between the nurses and the Residents and the pediatricians and the cleaning staff and the food service people and the orderlies, and the ringing of the monitors and the sounds of oxygen and suction machines buzzing...
i did manage to get some journaling done though....

I wanted to say thank you again for all your well wishes and emails while Artoo was in the hospital. He's still got quite a nasty cough, but he's getting better all the time.
here we are on discharge day - it's always so nice to have all the wires taken off |

All in all, it was a pretty good morning.

Weekly Challenge #86 "Break Free!"
A traditional Zentangle begins with dots, border, string - and often times, the string stays inside the border we drew, containing our work to the inside of our tiles.
I often find myself enamored with those tiles that seem to extend off the tile - and sometimes i forget that one of the wonderful parts of learning the rules when it comes to art, is learning when and how to break them.
This week, the challenge is to break free of your border! To create a tile or ZIA where SOME element of your work goes beyond the border and stretches or expands out, free from constraints!!

:) |
If you have a blog, add the site-specific URL where your tile is posted to the linkey machine below! Don't forget to link back here so that others can join in the fun! (if you don't know how to find this, you can see my half assed tutorial here)
Also, please feel free to come back often and visit the links of those people on the linkey machine - don't forget to leave a comment or feedback, everyone loves feedback. ;)
If you don't have a blog but still want to participate, you can email your tile to me and i will post it here. (See the contact tab above for my email address). The deadline for each weekly challenge is Saturday night so that i can round everyone up by Sunday. What this means is that i will stop adding tiles to the slideshow on Sunday. You're still more than welcome to do the challenges and add your name to the linkey machine.
Hey
- i should note here quickly that i try my best to get the slideshows
up in a timely fashion, but sometimes my life gets in the way (like when
Artoo spends a week in the hospital, just for example) so, please be
patient. thanks. HUG
I will be more diligent with the linkey machine - by editing out the ones that don't work, the doubles, the links that lead to nowhere, the links that go just to blog home pages (this is why we need those site specific urls), and the spam. And there is some spam. PLEASE do not put your *home* page in the linkey machine... please? for me??
Artoo looks a bit worn out, poor little guy. Thinking of you all, glad you are once again at home. Yay Chewie on your first day of school!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the challenge. Laura, I live for Mondays now.
Let's hope Artoo will be without hospitals for a long, very long time!
ReplyDeleteAnd wow, Chewie to school. Time flies!
I like the new challenge, thank you so much.
There is no place like home, as you know so well. Glad your all home again and little Artoo is on the mend. Happy school day to Chewie, my Grandson started Kindergarten and loves it. You and Brad are a great couple and wonderful parents.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
I agree, Hospitals are no place to be for children. But sometimes you have. My daughter who's suffering a muscle dystrofy disease, has to visit it very often, and she once had a medical research with lots of needles when she was 3 years old, and by now, her age is 12 she still is very very afraid of needles. I only can give you one advice always tell him the truth when he has questions about whats going to happen, when he has to go for another research, even if this is not the answer he wants to hear, it's the best way to prepare him. And he will always trust you. My daughter always wants to know if the next research will be with needles, and if so, I tell her, so I can prepare her. When I should say no, and after all there will be needles then she will be totally panicked at the time of the research, and she probably won't trust my judgement next time.
ReplyDeleteHugs for all of you!
So glad little buddy is on the upswing from his illness. This challenge will be perfect as I have been trying to work on breaking free for a while now. I look forward to seeing what others come up with as well.
ReplyDeleteIt is a wonderful thing to see the strength you a Brad have. I love when you share your life with us and all its ups and downs and how you all keep smiling. Linky is missing today but I am sure he will soon show up and I will check back. I love how your lines broke free in your tile! It is lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you for wonderful peaks into your life. You and your little family are shining example of love and the lesson in how the simple things in life, small traditions can hold us together in hard times.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a fun project for our week. I love the way your tiles are always so "strong", like you are in real life.
I so enjoy this challenge every week, and also peeking into your tumultuous life. It sounds difficult, and I'm amazed how positive and upbeat you always remain. You are a really wonderful example of how "attitude" has so much to do with peace and acceptance with joy. You're a wonderful role model to many.
ReplyDeleteGreat Challenge Laura,
ReplyDeleteHope that your little one is better and that sleep for you and Brad are on the make back to normal... Raising little ones is a huge challenge in itself... you are a very strong couple. My Love is with you. Love, Light and Peace...Bonnie

ReplyDeleteYour challenges have inspired me to start a new blog dedicated to Zentangles & tangling, so from next week my link will be to my new blog, Coco Zen Loco!
ReplyDeleteI've just put my response to this week's challenge up at http://www.cocozenloco.blogspot.in/
Fun challenge. In the future, I might just give myself permission to draw outside the lines a little more often. It's a good reminder that there are no real rules when tangling. And, Happy Anniversary to you. =)
ReplyDeleteI went with hearts for my border-free attempt: http://tictactangle.blogspot.com/2013/01/valentine-postcard.html
