Weekly Challenge #178

Hello Tangly people!

i'm Ba-a-a-a-a-aa-aaaaack!!  Did you miss me?

thank you so much to Amy and Carolyn for their guest posts while i was gone!  I really appreciate having them step in to help so i could spend the time with my family.  I knew the Challenge was in good hands!

So! we'll take a quick break from my CZT15 recap so i can give you a very brief run down of my trip to Washington for the 11th Moebius Syndrome Conference (i took over 400 photos!!)

The Harms crew at the zoo
We visited the Smithsonian National Zoo, it was a nice day - not too humid - a nice day for the zoo.

A highlight of the zoo for me was seeing the pandas.  The line was long, and i could see my family getting impatient, but before we left when B-rad and i were planning what to do, he asked me: "What do you want to see that you will be disappointed if we don't see?" and it was the pandas.  (Pandas are my spirit animal!)
Chewie was super excited to be on the top of the bus
We took a little bus tour and saw some of the sights at The Mall.

Like the Smithsonian Botanical Gardens:
The whole family
And the Smithsonian National Art Gallery:

I could have spent DAYS in here....
B-rad's mom and dad came on the trip with us to the Moebius Conference, my mom too.  (My dad wasn't able to make it, sadly)  It was sure nice to have those grandparents around, B-rad and i got to go have drinks in the bar with our friends, and we got to do a bit of sight seeing as well.

This House is White
Mr. President
The Washington Memorial
The boys had a good time at the conference, Chewie loved the kids centre and Artoo hung out with us.  We had some interesting and encouraging consults with specialists - there's some exciting work being done right now between Mt. Sinai, Boston Children's and NIH... and at the end of the the conference there was a Talent Show!

Artoo sang a song and won a trophy! He was so proud.  Us too.

Cutie Patootie
It was an awesome trip, i love meeting up with our extended Moebius family!!  We'll see them all in 2 years for the 12th Conference in L.A.!

Weekly Challenge #178: "Duotangle by the Letter!"
This week's challenge is a Duotangle, but with a bit of a twist.  Instead of me assigning the two tangles this week - you are going to chose your two tangles based on your name!  If you've not been there, is an amazing library of tangles!

My name is Laura Harms, so my two tangles will begin with "L" and "H"

For my tile, the two tangles i chose were LOGJAM (by Wayne Harlow) and HOLLIBOUGH (Zentangle)

I've been meaning to try Logjam for a while now, and Hollibough is an old favourite.  I kind of liked putting together a stand-by with a new one, to get me back in the "Zentangle-zone", but you don't have to do that.  You also don't have to use tangles from Tanglepatterns either, it's just a really great resource.

If you have a blog, add the site-specific URL where your tile is posted to the linkey machine below! Don't forget to link back here so that others can join in the fun! (if you don't know how to find this, you can see my half assed tutorial here) Also, please feel free to come back often and visit the links of those people on the linkey machine - don't forget to leave a comment or feedback, everyone loves feedback. ;)
If you don't have a blog but still want to participate, you can email your tile to me and i will put it in the slideshow. (send submissions to: weeklychallenge at[not gmail, just mail]. I just ask that you put in the subject line: Challenge # ________
The deadline for each weekly challenge is Saturday night so that i can round everyone up by Sunday. What this means is that i will stop adding tiles to the slideshow on Sunday. You're still more than welcome to do the challenges and add your name to the linkey machine. - although to be honest the deadline is pretty forgiving.
I will be more diligent with the linkey machine - by editing out the ones that don't work, the doubles, the links that lead to nowhere, the links that go just to blog home pages (this is why we need those site specific urls), and the spam. And there is some spam. PLEASE do not put your *home* page in the linkey machine... please? for me??

  1. I'm pleased for you, that you and your family had such a great time. And also fantastic that you had encouraging consults!
Your tile is very beautiful, I like this Logjam, never saw it before, but I will sure try it.
Tanks for this Challenge, I like it a lot.

  2. What fun! A chance to try 2 tangles I've never done before. Welcome back.

  3. This is the first time I join a Challenge. It was a lot of fun. Thank you

  4. Great photos! I am a "panda person" also so loved your photo. The BEST photo however is of "cutie Patootie". I love seeing him with his trophy...just awesome.

  5. Welcome back, Laura. The challenges were in good hands while you were gone, but it's still good to have you back. You all looked like you had a good time, and it's good to know you had some good feedback. I have to agree that the best photo was of "Cutie Patootie". What a doll!

This was a great challenge; but there are so many great combinations of patterns beginning with my initials that I could be doing this for weeks!

  6. Fun challenge and I got to use my new Copic sketch markers.

  7. Glad to hear your trip went well, and thanks for this week's challenge.
Interesting and especially "challenging" for me, since I don't like my name.

  8. The picture of Artoo holding that trophy is so, so, so adorable. It warms the cockles of my heart.

  9. Great photos, Laura! How on earth did you have time to take 400, though? You have been busy and glad you've had a great time. Thanks a lot for arranging the guest challengers and a warm welcome back to you! Axxx

  10. Glad that you had a great trip!

  11. Welcome back, loved reading about your trip. The picture of Artoo holding the trophy is precious xx

  12. Glad you had a special trip with family in the States; such valuable time for you as wife, daughter, mother, sister and Diva that you are. Enjoyed this challenge, though it kept me up all night trying to work out the geometry; a little something for the left brain! Thank you for what you do for us all.

  13. Thanks for the fun challenge! Sounds like a great week was had by all. Your sons are adorable! I used S. . . sprigs, and G . . . gingham. Thanks again!

  14. Thank you so much for a fun challenge!

  15. gosh, artoo is really growing! i love seeing his cute little face in your posts (chewie's too) and he looks so proud with his trophy!

  16. Welcome back, Laura. So glad you had a great trip! Thanks for sharing your photos.

  17. Better late than never, I mean me......thank you for all you do! I love reading your post and enjoying your gorgeous art style in each and every tile. The boys look so good! You have such a fabulous family!

  18. Welcome back. Glad that your trip went well and was enjoyable. Now off to see what others have posted.

  19. I suppose I had phone with this one, mainly because I made it hard for myself. But that's what the Challenge is all about, isn't it? Thanks, Laura, for making me have to think.

  20. This is my first ever challenge and I also made a blog this week to join in. I am looking forward to seeing everyone's drawings and all the different challenges. I found this one quite hard to do because I did it on a tile and I usually do larger drawings.

  21. I always enjoy seeing photos of you and your cute family. I'm glad you had a good trip making lots of memories for all!

  22. Thank you so much for sharing this opportunity with all of us. It is truly a blessing to have these opps and to share it with such a caring community of artists, bloggers and friends. AND! thanks for allowing us second chances as the first doesn't always work so well.

  23. OOOps!! I almost forgot to send you a message! First of all, glad to have you back! Your guest posters were awesome too! Anyway love the family pics and so nice to hear about encouraging words for Moebius Syndrome in Artoo's future! We are all rooting for you all! (By the way my son's favorite animal's the Panda too. Are you reading the Spirit Animal series? Because their is a Panda spirit animal?)Anyway, your tile is beautiful. Those two tangles look really nice together. See you next week! :0) Share Humanity

  24. Your trip seems wonderful. Thank you for sharing it with us.
