I've been contacted several times in the last day or so, asking how Artoo is recovering. i've been trying to answer everyone, but i thought i'd just do a bit more of an in depth update here so i don't have to keep repeating myself.
The surgery, itself, went well. He had his top and bottom eye muscles moved over to the outside of his eyes to give the inside eye muscles some resistance, as well as Botox injections to release the tight inner eye muscles. As you can imagine, there is quite a lot of swelling and bruising around his eyes, and the white parts of his eyes are very red due to subconjunctival hemorrhage. (A subconjunctival hemorrhage occurs when blood vessels breaks just underneath the clear surface of your eye - your conjunctiva).
Initially he was in some pain, due to the swelling and bruising, but his actual eyes seem to be without pain. He has not had to wear bandages, as all of his stitches are under his eyelids, they will dissolve on their own.
His vision continues to be good, although he does have some double vision - which is normal, as he's going from using one eye at time to using them both at once. That should resolve itself in time. Other than that, he's back to his happy normal self - and playing and singing songs and dancing around.
Thanks for your thoughts and well wishes! And an extra big thank you to my guest bloggers this month.
Love Laura, B-rad, Chewie and Artoo.

ReplyDeleteGood to know that Artoo is doing fine, but he is so resourceful I couldn't have imagined it otherwise. I was more worried for the mother than the child, I know how stressful these situations are. All my best wishes, again for the whole family.
