Weekly Challenge #321

Happy Monday all!
Another busy week behind us.  We keep getting closer and closer to summer break - There's only 9 more days of school, but who's counting??  Oh yeah, this guy.

Cutest superhero
The next two weeks should be a whirlwind as well - as both boys' classes are winding down with play days and field trips.  Then they will be home all day every day - and what adventures will we get up to??? who knows.

On Thursday i met this handsome fellow at my friend Rae's house.

Love at first sight
Ham likes only three humans, besides his human mom, and i'm one of them!! I feel very lucky, he's a pretty darn gorgeous cat.  My buddy Rae has been one of my dearest friends since the tenth grade.  So when she asked me this week if i could be her date to a Pyjamas and Pearls fundraiser i said YES!!

Friendos
The food was amazing - and the jazz band was excellent, and we even checked out the 'photo booth'

We go together like peas and carrots
On saturday my friend Sabrina drove up from Regina and we went to the Opera together, as is tradition.  This is our third, or fourth year going to the opera together, and it was very excellent.
Don Giovanni - the singers were excellent
Sunday morning the boys came and jumped into bed with us to with B-rad a happy father's day.  They gave him their handmade cards and gifts from school, which were awesome, and then we had breakfast on the deck before heading out to my in-laws for fathers day lunch!

Working together as a team
My sister in law and my nieces made a huge batch of Roll Kuchen - i haven't had it in so long, it's so yummy.  It's basically like a donut, a fritter, fried dough... what's not to love?

So many pans of the golden brown deliciousness

.  I'd never had it before B-rad and i started dating.  My husband's family eats it, traditionally, with watermelon. I always have mine with jam, because i don't like watermelon.

yeah.  i know.
Crazy person...
B-rad's Granda use to make Roll Kuchen for the family, but she said that Mel's Roll Kuchen is Grandma Approved.
PHOTO BOMB!

Weekly Challenge #321: "Non Dominant - Aura Challenge"
This week's challenge is a double challenge.  a Double Dog Dare, if you will.

Every once in a while i post a non dominant hand challenge - which is always met with mixed reactions.

People either love or hate this challenge - and a lot of that has to do with being able to let go of the illusion of perfection.

When you tangle with your non dominant hand, in my case - the left, you really are forced to examine every movement you make.  How you hold the pen in your hand, which direction do you turn the tile? Do you pull the pen towards you? Or push it a way.  Do you use your wrist or your arm?

Part of the thing that holds people back is that they don't want their tile to look 'ugly'... but i think that one of the great perks of using your non dominant hand is that you already know going in that it's not going to 'look pretty' and so you're free, in a way, to let go of things like the idea of COMPOSITION or of perfection.

And also - let's stop calling our work ugly.  If you really don't like it, try saying your tile has Character.

Now.  For the second part of the challenge?

use tangles that are built using auras!

Aura's require a lot of focus for me, even when i'm using my dominant hand.  They really look the best when the spacing is consistent and even throughout. That's definitely a struggle for me.
arukas, afterglo, sez, crescent moon

have a great week!

And if you're on the Zentangle Mosaic App or Instagram - i'm @iamthediva - come on by and follow me, and i'm going to be using hashtags on the app for each of my weekly challenges. So if you're game - use the hashtag #DC321(Diva Challenge #321) for your tile this week! You can also search in the app for people's contributions to the challenge by clicking on the hashtag from inside the app, or using the search function.

If you have a blog or host your images on line (like on Flickr or Picassa or Pinterest), add the site-specific URL where your tile is posted to the linkey machine below! Don't forget to link back here so that others can join in the fun! (if you don't know how to find this, you can see my half assed tutorial here) Also, please feel free to come back often and visit the links of those people on the linkey machine - don't forget to leave a comment or feedback, everyone loves feedback. ;)

If you love the challenge as much as i do, please consider leaving a tip (tip jar in the side bar).  I write this blog for free and have no plans to make it a paid for service in the future.  Buy me a cup of coffee, or a new Micron pen!! Click the tip jar on the side for a monthly tip, but if you just wanna throw a few bucks my way THIS LINK will give you a one time option.    A very big thank you to those who have kept me in hot cups of joe. ;)

  3. Thanks for your blog, your challenges, and for sharing your own tile each week. I'm realatively new to your challenges and am enjoying them very much - just figured out how to comment! I like your tile, especially the sparkle on the crescent moon and the shading. I also wanted to ask about the missing linkey machine list and link.

  4. Hmm. There's another hinky (is that a word?) think about the post this week (in addition to the missing link plug in. On my lap top, the adsense ads are covering part of the photos and text in each instance. Blogging is fun, but can be maddening!

    1. Hm, that's a new one for me.... i don't have much control over where the ads go, they are run through BlogHer, not adsense, i'm not sure how i can fix that. :(

  6. Great challenge! It was a great way to reinforce the idea and practice of slow, steady auras that were mentioned in the last couple of streams. Thanks for all you do!
