Weekly Challenge #366

Hey everyone!

i'm back! did you miss me?  i ended up taking a bit longer of a mental break than i anticipated, and i wanted to thank you all for the space to do that - it makes coming back that much easier.

I really had a wonderful summer with the kids - we decided to forgo this year's Moebius conference that was in Florida, and instead we put that money towards a pop up camper!

I spent some time renovating it this summer - and we ended up taking it out camping 5 times this summer!  The boys love it, and i do too.

Greetings from the camper!
It was a nice break - and i found myself doing a lot of other art type projects over the summer like working in my art journal and doing some sketching on location.  I even took up some sewing - and i think i made my late grandmother proud - i redid all the curtains and valances inside the camper.  (i almost failed Home Ec in high school because i was not good with a sewing machine)

And while it was a very jam packed summer full of parks and bike rides, and camping, and swimming, and fishing and summer fairs, and learning dungeons and dragons, and reunions.... i'm glad that the kids are back in school today and that we can get back to some kind of a schedule.

PHEW!

Thanks goodness for back to school....

Weekly Challenge #366: Back to Basics
I've been thinking about what my first back to bizness challenge would be after the summer, and i didn't want to put too much pressure on myself or on any of you - so this week's challenge is a Back to Basics challenge - we're gonna go back to the Zentangle roots.

Black on White, with pencil shading, on a 3.5" Square
Dots. Border. String.

using simple tangles like Hollibaugh, Crescent Moon, Keeko, Printemps.  (follow links for step outs if you don't know them already)

i like each of these tangles because of the way that other tangles are built off the same principles - such as drawing behind, auraing, and lines and spirals.
it was really great to just put the pen to paper and not think too much about it - i hope you enjoy it too.

again, thanks for understanding about the time off this summer.

have a great week everyone!
And if you're on the Zentangle Mosaic App or Instagram - i'm @iamthediva - come on by and follow me, and i'm going to be using hashtags on the app for each of my weekly challenges. So if you're game - use the hashtag #DC365 (Diva Challenge #365) for your tile this week! You can also search in the app for people's contributions to the challenge by clicking on the hashtag from inside the app, or using the search function.
If you have a blog or host your images on line (like on Flickr or Picassa or Pinterest), add the site-specific URL where your tile is posted to the linkey machine below! Don't forget to link back here so that others can join in the fun! (if you don't know how to find this, you can see my half assed tutorial here) Also, please feel free to come back often and visit the links of those people on the linkey machine - don't forget to leave a comment or feedback, everyone loves feedback. ;)
If you love the challenge as much as i do, please consider leaving a tip (tip jar in the side bar). I write this blog for free and have no plans to make it a paid for service in the future. Buy me a cup of coffee, or a new Micron pen!! Click the tip jar on the side for a monthly tip, but if you just wanna throw a few bucks my way THIS LINK will give you a one time option. A very big thank you to those who have kept me in hot cups of joe. ;)

  12. I did it! I completed my Zentangle and enjoyed every second of it. Sounds like your R&R really helped you. And what a wonderful summer with the family! That camper was the greatest idea. When the boys get bigger, you 2 will be sleeping the the trailer and each boy will have their own tent. :-) How do I know? Hee hee hee! That's what we did when we were growing up. Did lots of camping and that's the best thing ever. Enjoy! and Hope to see you here next week, or whatever schedule you decide for yourself. Thanks lots for this challenge, Laura.

  13. Yeah, there you are back in action again, Laura. It was about time. It is quite 'quiet' on the zentangle front without your weekly blog and challenge. But more importantly, you are happy again and that is all that counts!!!
    Tangle On!

  19. Welcome back, Laura! So glad to see you had a fun summer with your family. we had a tent camper all the while our kids were little and they still talk about their memories of camping. Actually, when we bought a bigger RV two years ago my oldest daughter and her husband wanted the tent camper and take their two littles all summer now too. So much fun when we all go together! Again, glad you are back and all can be well in Zentangle land again! :)
