Weekly Challenge #373

Good Morning! Welcome to this week's challenge!

I am home now from Ontario, i arrived late Saturday night and yesterday i spent the day catching up with my boys so haven't had time to really decompress from the trip and to adjust back to my time zone...

This is the first time i've logged onto my computer in a few days.  I haven't downloaded all my pictures from the week, but i will and then i will share some with you.

BUT i will say that my trip was fantastic, and i had such a great time visiting with some CZTs that i hadn't met before (Some i got to know more than others)

BEFORE i get to today's challenge i wanted to share some exciting products with you: My friend Cori owns and operates Jot! - a hand made leather journal cover and accessory shop.  She was on Etsy but has since moved her store to an online shop (follow the link)

I've owned several of Cori's covers and they are so wonderful.  I am actually a Product Rep for your store -- i have been for a few months now.  And so before i went to TangleON i asked Cori if she could come up with some kind of leather wallet to hold zentangle tiles!  So after a bit of back and forth she came up with the Tangle Jot, which i gave away as a door prize at TangleOn to a lucky CZT.

It's made with undyed leather so you can tangle easily on the outside - Here's mine all tangled up that i took with me to TangleOn

There are still a few left in her Shop, including 2 wallets that are considered seconds because they have very minor flaws - if you're interested you can order one for yourself or get some early shopping done for Christmas!  The best part is that they are Canadian Made, and in Canadian dollars.  So if you're Canadian there's no tricky exchange or insane shipping to worry about, and if you're from the US or Europe - you just might get a treat when you factor in YOUR exchange rate!

And as an added bonus, you can use my code: IAMTHEDIVA during checkout for 10% off your entire order.  You might want to give her entire shop a little look-see, i have journal covers in many sizes as well one of her pen rolls and a pen sleeve, they're ALL QUALITY!!

Okay, enough product placement...for now....

So this week's Challenge is....

Weekly Challenge #373: "Non Dominant Tangling!"
Yes, i know!  I hear you groaning from the back of the room... but hear me out.

So one of the things i did during my workshop was to have the participants tangle with their non-dominant hand.  And because i had them captive in a room, they all did it.

I know that over the almost 8 years that i've been blogging, there has been a very strong divide among my readers, those who love this particular challenge, and those who hate it.

If you're one of those who love it - go ahead and get started, but if you're one who doesn't let me invite you to give it a try... i extra challenge you to COMPLETE this challenge, and when you feel frustrated to remind yourself to take a deep breath, to go slow, and to take a moment to maybe appreciate your DOMINANT hand.

My advice, if you're skeptical, is to trust the PROCESS here and forget about the product.  This tile may not be pretty, but it's okay.  Allow yourself to make something 'ugly'.  Allow yourself to slow down.  You may want to use a larger nib if you have one, or you may want to use simple tangles instead of complicated ones, and i would also suggest that you tangle larger to help with the awkwardness of holding the pen, don't forget to turn your tile.

Don't worry, you got this.

Have a great week everyone.

And if you're on the Zentangle Mosaic App or Instagram - i'm @iamthediva - come on by and follow me, and i'm going to be using hashtags on the app for each of my weekly challenges. So if you're game - use the hashtag #DC373 (Diva Challenge #373) for your tile this week! You can also search in the app for people's contributions to the challenge by clicking on the hashtag from inside the app, or using the search function.
If you have a blog or host your images on line (like on Flickr or Picassa or Pinterest), add the site-specific URL where your tile is posted to the linkey machine below! Don't forget to link back here so that others can join in the fun! (if you don't know how to find this, you can see my half assed tutorial here) Also, please feel free to come back often and visit the links of those people on the linkey machine - don't forget to leave a comment or feedback, everyone loves feedback. ;)
If you love the challenge as much as i do, please consider leaving a tip (tip jar in the side bar). I write this blog for free and have no plans to make it a paid for service in the future. Buy me a cup of coffee, or a new Micron pen!! Click the tip jar on the side for a monthly tip, but if you just wanna throw a few bucks my way THIS LINK will give you a one time option. A very big thank you to those who have kept me in hot cups of joe. ;)

  1. I'm glad you've had a good trip and I'm looking forward to hearing more about it. The journal covers look gorgeous. As for this week's Challenge, I'm afraid I've done it under protest! Not something I enjoy at all, but I did it anyway. Next!

  3. Hi Laura! The challenge this week was really hard to do. I use my non-dominant hand for writing sometimes, but never draw with it. It challenged me a lot, thanks for that different view on zentangle!

  4. Laura I do like this challenge since it forces me to focus on the process, not the result!!!! I like your tile a lot too, there are other qualities to be seen than strictly controlled lines!!!

  5. I did it! Whew. I got home late last night after helping my brother all day and didn't see the challenge until then. I really wasn't into doing it so late in the day. So I did it this morning. I'm calling it "A Disturbance in the Universe". LOL It really got me to slow down, but still got quite wonky, which is okay and why I thought the title was perfect. :-D
