Weekly Challenge #380

Happy 2019 everyone!

you know what happened quietly over the holiday break?

This blog turned eight years old.

8 years.

8.

years.

If you've been with me since the start, it's been a long haul! Thank you for showing up each week and participating in the challenge, and sharing your work here or on your blog or on other social media sites.  If you're new here - welcome! pull up a chair and get a nice cozy blanket. ;)

i'm still pondering what i will do with this blog and this challenge, as there have been many other challenge blogs pop up and there's about seven million different zentangle themed challenges on facebook currently -  that i wonder if i'm just part of the background noise now.

i have toyed with the idea of doing some kind of a patreon site, but truth it - i mostly think about that at 3 am when i can't sleep and once my day has started i'm not sure if i have the know how to go about something like that, or if the work would be worth it.  y'know?

So.  for now we continue on - if you're an old faithful or a newbie, thank you so much for joining me here.  pop me a comment, share my challenge with your friends and classes (if you teach).  I do think that i will try out posting a little it less of the daily stuff on my blog, though.  i won't stop completely, i don't imagine, but i do think there will be less - if only to free up some of my time.  If you're interested in more of the "Day in the Life" of the diva, feel free to follow my instagram page @iamthediva - i post more of my every day stuff there and the kids and the dog, and other various artsy things i happen to be doing.

OKAY!

On to the challenge

Weekly Challenge #380: Spundala...Zendala....Zenbuttonz....it's a circle.

Back when i was visiting with my now-very-good-friend Yvonne Westover in Ontario in october, she introduced me to zenbuttons.  i was like: "Zen what now?"

so then she pulled out these two paint spinners, like, y'know... the kids toys? and she set them up and then showed me how to make these spundalas with watercolours.... and i was hooked.  like, i sat there for probably an hour just making tile after tile.  I found moving the paint around with my brush to be very relaxing and making the colour combinations was so fun.

all the pretties i made in Ontario
i tangled a few and gave them away to friends....

and then on Christmas morning i found a paint spinner under my tree from Santa! (Thanks, Santa!)
my kids were both like: WHAAAAT? What are you gonna do with that??

and i said: Just you wait....

and i did one tile, and they were hooked and promptly took over my new toy and busily made their own amazing spundalas.

Chewie had a lot of fun
Artoo did too!
Check it out!

So with all these circle shaped strings about the house, it was kind of a no-brainer for me what this week's challenge should be!!

If you have access to a spinner, great, if not - you can draw a freehand circle or trace a cup or a bowl... and use the circle as your string.
that's it! simple and sweet as we launch into a new year.

This is my favourite one from our Post-New Years play.

i hope you have some fun with this one, i know i have been...

thanks for spending time with me! Here's to 2019!!
have a great week everyone!
And if you're on the Zentangle Mosaic App or Instagram - i'm @iamthediva - come on by and follow me, and i'm going to be using hashtags on the app for each of my weekly challenges. So if you're game - use the hashtag #DC380 (Diva Challenge #380) for your tile this week! You can also search in the app for people's contributions to the challenge by clicking on the hashtag from inside the app, or using the search function.
If you have a blog or host your images on line (like on Flickr or Picassa or Pinterest), add the site-specific URL where your tile is posted to the linkey machine below! Don't forget to link back here so that others can join in the fun! (if you don't know how to find this, you can see my half assed tutorial here) Also, please feel free to come back often and visit the links of those people on the linkey machine - don't forget to leave a comment or feedback, everyone loves feedback. ;)
If you love the challenge as much as i do, please consider leaving a tip (tip jar in the side bar). I write this blog for free and have no plans to make it a paid for service in the future. Buy me a cup of coffee, or a new Micron pen!! Click the tip jar on the side for a monthly tip, but if you just wanna throw a few bucks my way THIS LINK will give you a one time option. A very big thank you to those who have kept me in hot cups of joe. ;)

I'm not on FB (or hardly) or IG, but know that things change. You've given me at least 4 years of joyful exploration, and I have nothing but gratitude!
